KPMG Launches Summer Internships Again

Friday, 17 March 2017

  • KPMG Summer Internships 2017 - OGs Katie Clinton and Jenny Webster with current 6th Form
  • KPMG Summer Internships 2017 - Katie Clinton talking to pupils

KPMG will once again run their flagship summer vacation programme exclusively for Bolton School Sixth Form students. The four week programme gives two Year 12 students paid work experience with KPMG.

This will be the seventh year that the summer internships have been available to Bolton School students, following the introduction of the programme by Old Girl Katie Clinton. Katie left the Girls’ Division in 1997 and went on to obtain a Business Management degree from UMIST, followed by her Chartered Accountant qualification with ICAEW. She joined KPMG in 2000 and has since become a Partner. She returned to Bolton School with her colleagues, fellow Old Girl Jenny Webster, Philip Hall and Holly Szoke, to speak to students in Year 12 about this wonderful opportunity presented by KPMG. She was also able to give an insight into what KPMG does as one of the ‘Big Four’ global accountancy firms and the work they undertake for their clients.

The application process for the KPMG summer internships is rigorous, and asks interested Sixth Form students to complete the same application form, written test and interview that school leavers and graduates face when applying for permanent positions with the company. Although this is tough, it does prepare students for job applications in the future.

The two successful applicants to the summer vacation programme are able to invest in new skills and enhance their CVs while also developing their understanding of commercial issues during their time with KPMG. They shadow employees across different disciplines in the Manchester office, typically joining the KPMG Audit and Corporate Finance teams and spending two weeks with each.

The internships offer Sixth Form students valuable knowledge of a corporate, workplace environment and can provide a differentiating factor when applying to university and future jobs.
