Bolton School Former Pupils

Alumni enjoy biggest reunion ever!

This year’s May Reunion was the biggest yet, with over 260 alumni and former staff returning to Bolton School - some of them for the first time since they had left!  Pupils from the classes of 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994 and 2004 were in attendance, including two mother-and-daughter pairs.  There was also the reminder that the Bolton School alumni community is international, with quite a few guests travelling from across the globe from places as diverse as Croatia, Sydney (Australia), San Francisco (USA), Germany, Otago (New Zealand), the Netherlands, Greece and Toronto (Canada) to attend.

Former pupils and staff enjoyed welcome drinks in the Riley Centre and were formally welcomed by the Heads, Philip Britton and Sue Hincks.  They then enjoyed lunch in the Boys’ Division Dining Hall – offering many Old Girls a first trip into the Boys’ Division!  The guests joined together to sing Happy Birthday to Bernard Nolan, former Clerk and Treasurer, who turned 90 the day before the reunion.

Lunch was followed by tours of both Divisions, a great way for the Old Boys and Old Girls to step back in time and remember their own School days.  Although some aspects of the building have changed over recent years – most notably the creation of the Riley Centre to join the ‘great divide’ across the Divisions – many things were just as people remembered them – even the smell of the corridors!

Reminiscing continued in the sunshine in the gardens at the rear of the Riley Centre afterwards, and when it was time to leave School in the late afternoon the delighted groups of reunited School friends continued their celebrations.
