An e-book is launched today telling the tale of Bolton School’s most significant benefactors, the Leverhulmes. The book, The Leverhulme Legacy at Bolton School, written by the School’s Archivist Eric Fairweather, traces the impact of three generations of the family on Bolton School with a particular focus on Lord Leverhulme, who in 1915 brought together Bolton Grammar School for Boys with Bolton High School for Girls on the same site to create the Bolton School Foundation.
The e-book marks the 100th anniversary of the current Foundation and the 500th anniversary of education in Bolton and also coincides with the 1st Viscount Leverhulme’s birthday of 19 September.
The book will be gifted to all pupils to read as an iBook and sent to parents. It is also available as a Kindle book and can be purchased from Amazon here.
Lord Leverhulme also left an enduring legacy in and around Bolton, including Leverhulme Park and Rivington Terraced Gardens, which are currently being restored to their former glory.
