Freelance Documentary Director Jonny Ashton (1998-2005) was part of the victorious production team whose programme Celebrity Hunted was named 'Best Entertaining Documentary' at this year’s Grierson Awards. Established in 1972, the Griersons are the biggest event in the UK documentary calendar. The awards recognise and celebrate documentaries from Britain and abroad that have made a significant contribution to the genre and that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence.
Jonny describes working as a Director on Celebrity Hunted as 'an incredible experience'. He was 'on the run' with Jamie Laing and Spencer Matthews and had to walk/hike/run/sleep wherever they went – fortunately the many and varied outdoor pursuits opportunities offered by Bolton School stood Jonny in good stead, as the trio spent most of the two weeks camping in woods and farms!
Jonny was also a Director on the recent BBC2 series The Mighty Redcar as well as for a couple of series of 24 Hours in Police Custody on Channel 4. He has just spent seven months with the British Parachute Regiment for a primetime ITV documentary which will be on screens in 2019 and is currently working on a new major documentary series for BBC2.
