Alumni Networking Event
Tuesday 8 June 2021, 6.00-7.00pm via Zoom
Two top alumni speakers will speak at this virtual networking event for Bolton School Old Boys and Old Girls. Amanda Brooks, CBE (Class of 1989) and Ravi Bhatiani (Class of 2001) will share their thoughts on the future of UK trade and international relations on the global stage. This will be followed by a virtual breakout session in which all attending alumni will be encouraged to have their say.
Amanda is the Director, US Negotiations at the Department for International Trade and received her CBE for services to economic growth in 2020. Ravi is the Executive Director of FETSA (Federation of European Tank Storage Associations) and has a background in law, particularly EU law, policy and politics. About our speakers:
Amanda Brooks CBE (Class of 1989)
Director, US Negotiations at the Department for International Trade
Amanda became Director, US Negotiations in November 2020, having joined the Department for International Trade (DIT) in August 2016. Her responsibilities to date have included bilateral trade relationships, multilateral fora on trade such as the WTO, G7, G20 and Commonwealth, trade remedies and disputes, and export controls. She had previously worked on trade negotiations, notably the Doha Round, earlier in her career. Amanda is head of DIT’s policy profession and the Departmental champion of learning and skills.
Prior to joining DIT, Amanda spent much of her career in the Department for Business, for example leading work on innovation, industrial strategy and growth policy. She has also served overseas as the Deputy High Commissioner and Director of Trade and Investment in Singapore. She has an MBA from Imperial College. You can follow her on Twitter @AmandaBrooksDIT.
Ravi Bhatiani (Class of 2001)
Executive Director of FETSA
Ravi Bhatiani is the Executive Director of FETSA, The Federation of European Tank Storage Associations. He leads the engagement of the tank storage industry towards the EU bodies in Brussels. Ravi joined FETSA in June 2019 and has already made big strides in developing FETSA into an influential voice in EU Policy development through a comprehensive reform of the organisation including the development and implementation of a new strategy, informative publications, communication tools as well as an innovative supplier partnership.
During his time in Brussels, Ravi has worked on a wide range of (often controversial) EU policy and political topics.
Before joining FETSA, Ravi advised leading businesses and associations on their engagement with the EU. He originally trained as a lawyer in the UK, specializing in EU and competition law.
