Wednesday, 06 February 2019
A team of three pupils from Bolton School Girls’ Division has won through to the Senior Section of the District Final of the Youth Speaks competition, which will be held on 3 March in Frodsham. The Senior Team, comprising Asiyah Patel from Y12 and Fabeha Shafat and Audrisha De from Y10, won through after debating the topic of ‘Introverts’ in the Bolton heat, held at Sharples School. They will be joined in the District Final by an Intermediate Team from the school that progressed through an earlier heat held in Rochdale. The national final will be held in Nottingham on 11 May.
English teacher Mrs Thornborough said: “The girls were a credit to the school and it was a delight to accompany them." Paul Wightman of Bolton with le Moors Rotary Club, who organised the event commended the school: “Thank you so much for bringing your teams to Sharples last night, and taking the trouble to help and encourage them in public speaking. Your teams were a credit to Bolton School, and congratulations on having the winning Senior Team. I wish them every success in the next stage of the competition. On behalf of Bolton with le Moors Rotary, would you pass on my thanks to all your students for giving up their evening, and taking part in Youth Speaks.”
