Pringle Bells Challenge Fills Festive Hampers
Wednesday, 16 December 2020
Each year, enthusiastic pupils at Bolton School take part in the annual Urban Outreach Christmas Hamper Challenge to help others at this festive time of year. The Junior Boys’, Junior Girls’ and Senior Girls’ Schools all joined in with 2020’s ‘Pringle Bells’ donation drive.
Under normal circumstances, Bolton School would aim to provide a minimum of 2,400 individual items to go in Urban Outreach’s Christmas Hampers. These hampers, which are given to individuals and families who are struggling, are filled with everything needed to put on a traditional Christmas spread. In previous years, the school has provided selection boxes (twice), stuffing and sauce, mince pies and brandy sauce, fizzy drinks and crisps, after-dinner mints and crackers, and tins of biscuits and Christmas puddings.
This year, the school was tasked with donating tubes of Pringles. However, remaining Covid-secure had to be a priority and therefore the aim was just 700 individual tubes, to reduce the amount of stock handled in school, plus a cash donation to match the normal contribution.
Fundraising took place in school on Christmas Jumper Day, which saw girls in Years 7 to 13 wearing festive knitwear and accessories to raise £818.14. Another collection at this year’s ‘drive-in’ Ceremony of Carols raised a further £840 for the cause.
Pupils also outdid themselves with their donations of Pringles and more than doubled this year’s goal. The Junior Boys’ School collected 271 tubes while the Senior Girls and their parents gave 608 tubes. In the Junior Girls’ School, Izzy in Year 3 suggested that her dad, who works for Walkers Crisps, could offer an alternative to Pringles: he arranged an amazing donation of 264 tubes of Doritos Stax, bringing the Junior Girls’ total up to 624 tubes!
On Tuesday, Bolton School was delighted to hand over 1,503 tubes of Pringles and a cheque for £1,658.14 to a representative from Urban Outreach.
The money raised will go directly towards purchasing more items for the Christmas Hampers, ready for distribution at the end of the week.
