Teams of Year 6 pupils from the Junior Girls’ and Junior Boys’ Schools took part in the regional heat of the National Young Mathematicians’ Award. Ashriya Fernando, Emily Fox, Marissa Hollinghurst and Nikita Luhar formed the Junior Girls’ team, while Zain Burrill, Dhilan Jacobs, Sid Kumar and Matthew Pearson represented the Junior Boys.

The pupils travelled to Explore Learning in Bury, where they worked together within their teams to solve mathematical problem-solving challenges and present their findings to the adjudicator. They were judged on their mathematical ability, strategies and approach to finding a solution, presentation skills and, above all, their ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a team.

The Junior Boys and Junior Girls worked very well together throughout the competition and enjoyed the whole experience.

Over 1,000 schools across the country will take part in the regional heats, but only five sill be selected to attend the national final at the National History Museum in London. The results will be announced after the last of the regional heats. Good luck to both Bolton School teams!
