Gymnasts to Compete in World Championships
Wednesday, 26 February 2020
Amy Wildon-Foster and Ruby Spencer will be heading to Orlando, Florida to compete in the IAIGC World Championships. Both are Year 4 pupils at the Junior Girls’ School.
Their bid to qualify started in Autumn 2019. Alongside fellow squad members, they have been competing across the UK at regional and state level competitions. They have performed brilliantly and succeeded in achieving all the qualifying scores required, winning plenty of individual medals along the way. Alongside fulfilling all of their training and squad commitments, this has culminated in them being selected by the Head Coach at Chorley Gymnastics Club to represent the UK at the Championships.
They are competing at Copper 1 level, Amy in the age 9 category and Ruby in age 8.
Running from the end of June into July this summer, the championships will also feature international gymnasts from countries including Bermuda, Canada, Germany, India, Mexico, Romania, South Africa, and the United States.
Amy started gymnastics at age 3, mainly due to the fact she was always climbing and upside down. She loved it from day one and has enjoyed the challenges, friendships and team spirit it has brought her.
Ruby started gymnastics at the age of 3, initially to inspire listening, trying new challenges, hard work and fun in the lead up to starting school. Coupled with the fact that she was always upside down it seemed the ideal choice of sport.
The girls are committed to training hard with their coach Milly, enjoying the fabulous friendships gymnastics brings, and perfecting their skills for the championships. Bolton School supports their training schedule and celebrates their achievements.
Both girls have been working hard fundraising in their spare time at weekends and after school to help the club raise the money needed for entrance fees and kit to compete in America. Any support or sponsorship you would like to give would be greatly appreciated. Please contact: Katherine Wildon (email@example.com) and Sonya Spencer (firstname.lastname@example.org).
