Bolton School hosted this year’s Bolton School Games PE Conference which focused heavily on inclusion. School Games organisers Brian Richardson and Bernadette O’Hare opened the morning – attended by 51 delegates from 38 local primary schools – with the chilling reminder that there is every probability that children of today will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. Schools were encouraged to join the Daily Mile initiative which sees every child in every primary encouraged to run or jog for 15 minutes at their own pace.

Rachel Redmond of Youth Sports Trust delivered a finance workshop and Alex Wilson of the Manchester Utd Foundation held an inclusive PE workshop, introducing a number of indoor ball and bean bag games for younger children of all abilities. The keynote speaker on the day was Darren Jones, Director of Teaching and Learning and PE Teacher, who talked about his work at the Oakwood Academy before giving a practical PE workshop in the School Sports Hall which focused on including all pupils in sports and games sessions.

In between the workshops and seminars, attendees could visit the ‘marketplace’ where a wide range of exhibitors displayed their sporting equipment and provision.
