I Am Looking For

Preview for Stunning New Riley Sixth Form Centre

A special evening preview of the new multi-million pound Riley Sixth Form Centre at Bolton School was enjoyed by donors, governors, alumni and friends of the School.

The stunning glass-fronted new building, whilst eye-catching itself, offers incredible views of the surrounding grade 2 listed school buildings and over the town of Bolton.  It marks the completion of Lord Leverhulme’s vision for the school based on the colleges and quadrangles of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Guests were taken on guided tours by Sixth Form students, who proudly showed off their new ICT Suite, seminar rooms, refectory, study booths and relaxation area.  One of the guests, Mrs Gill Richards, former Headmistress of the Girls’ Division, said: “It is exactly as Mervyn Brooker (former Headmaster of the Boys’ Division) and I envisaged it.  We were both delighted to supply a tree each for the new Centre Quadrangle.”

The new centre, reminiscent of university accommodation, will be enjoyed by over 400 Sixth Form students from both the Girls’ Division and the Boys’ Division, although they will continue to be taught separately.  It is sited in the heart of the campus and linked to both senior schools by two-tiered glass walkways.  The School’s main Reception is now housed in this building and visitors can gain access, on foot, through the main clock tower archway.

The Riley Centre was designed by Cassidy and Ashton and built by Seddon Construction.  Its completion marks the fourth stage in a building programme that has seen the construction of a new Infant School, a new Junior Girls' School and the refurbishment and extension of the Junior Boys' School.
