The Year 2 Concert is an annual celebration heralding the end of the children’s time at Beech House. The children decide what they want to perform and practice with their parents, and their teachers then bring the diverse acts together as a show with a unifying theme.
This year’s concert was on the theme of Travel and the performance was structured as if the audience was on an aeroplane – even opening with the words, “Good evening and welcome to flight BH2015. In case of emotional turbulence, tissues can be found underneath your seats …”
Beech House staff had even provided the promised tissues, just in case!
The children put on a spectacular show, with lots of boys and girls singing, dancing, reciting poetry and playing musical instruments – including Davian Patel on guitar, Keeran Singh on drums, tap dancing from Lucy Pickett and Paavana Sugumar, and even a rendition of the National Anthem from Kush Patel!
Some groups decided to branch out and demonstrate more unusual skills in their performances. Marty Arnot-Smoth, Kyran Chitre and Jacob Keld put on a fantastic martial arts display, six boys performed an excellent boxing routine, and another group of six showed off their impressive hula-hooping abilities. There were two magic shows on the programme, one from Oliver Seddon and Joe Lewis and another from Haider Abbas, two comedy routines from Alastair Mogg and duo Shivaansh Dubey and Shahid Rafik, and Louis Bates put on a puppet show.
Pupils also performed dances in their classes: 2G bringing lots of energy to their ‘Viva Las Vegas’ dance, 2RB following the martial arts display with ‘Kung Fu Fighting’, and 2C transporting the audience to ‘Istanbul (Not Constantinople)’.
All of the Year 2 boys and girls came together for the finale performance of ‘We’re All Going on a Summer Holiday!’ which made for the perfect end to a wonderful evening.
