Bolton School Junior Boys and Junior Girls combined their
talents and gave an outstanding athletics performance despite the
thunderstorms, to become Bolton Schools' Athletics Champions for
the second year running.
The annual meeting was held at Leverhulme Park, and saw teams of
Junior boys and girls from 25 Primary Schools across the region
competing in different athletic events to gain points for their
team. The team with the most combined points at the end of the
competition was declared the overall winner.
The Bolton School team gained medals in Sprint, Relay and Long
Jump events, and by the end of the day the boys and girls combined
had collected the most points, to walk away with the overall cup.
It wasn't all plain sailing though, as severe thunderstorms with
heavy rain and lightning delayed the event by 45 minutes, meaning
some of the team had to leave before the finals as they were taking
part in the School Play! However the remaining 'skeleton' team
soldiered on to secure victory and bring the trophy to Bolton
School for the second year in a row.
Deputy Head, Mr Craig Rashleigh said: "Very well done to
everyone who took part in the competition, our win was a triumph
over adversity of the highest order! We are fortunate at Bolton
School Juniors that we have the excellent facilities of the Senior
School for the team to practice on; an advantage that many of the
other schools competing don't have."
