Two pupils in Year 5 have won silver medals in downhill ski races over the February half term break!
Stephen Lomax has been skiing for six years. He travelled to Denver in America with his family during the half term holidays, where he took part in the local Downhill Ski Race. He even beat some adults to come in second place in this competition. He may have the opportunity to join the British downhill skiing team for training next year.
Henry Ainscough started skiing the week he turned three years old: the earliest he was allowed in the Ski School in Obergurgl, Austria. Every year since then, he has returned with his family to ski during the February half term, and this year was no exception.
He competed against 470 fellow skiers in the Obergurgl Downhill Ski Race, and came in second place in his age group. Even more impressive, he was also second fastest out of all the day’s races!
Henry’s sister Georgia Ainscough in Year 3 also took part in the Obergurgl Downhill Ski Race, and received a gold medal in her age category.
