Junior Boys on Road to Chess Success Again

Once again the Junior Boys' chess teams have made it through to the Semi Finals of the EPSCA (English Primary Schools Chess Association) National Primary Schools Chess Team Championship.

The competition is for pupils aged 5 - 11 years and is split into two age groups - U9 and U11. Two teams of six boys from Bolton School were entered into the qualifier, which was held at Bridgewater School on Saturday 5 February. The U9 team (Henry Doyle, Alfie Inkster, Krishnan Ajit, Flynn Saturley, Johnny Shine and Ben Turner) came in second place, while the U11 team (Luke Cavanaugh, Henry Webb, Tom Paterson, Ryan Thakrar, Sam Brennan and Akshay Pal) came third in their section. There were some excellent individual performances with Luke Cavanaugh and Johnny Shine gaining 4.5 out of 5 and Flynn Saturley, Ben Turner, Henry Doyle and Sam Brennan gaining 4 out of 5.

The Semi Finals consist of 6 rounds over 2 days at three different Pontins venues. Bolton School Junior Boys will be competing at Pontins in Prestatyn in May.
