The Junior Boys’ U11s and U9s chess teams were in action this weekend at the first round of the English Primary Schools’ Chess Association national competition at Bridgewater. The boys acquitted themselves very well throughout the long day, bringing their skills to bear in all their matches.
The U9s team were clear winners with 29.5 points out of a possible 30 – an excellent achievement!
The U11s had a slightly tougher challenge on their hands and were fighting right down to the final round, which began with Bolton School’s boys trailing by half a point. However, they eventually emerged victorious with 21.5 points out of 25.
Congratulations to all of the boys who played. The teams were a real credit to the school and performed at their best. The two teams are now looking forward to the June semi-finals, which will take place at Pontins, Prestatyn.
As the Junior Girls have also qualified to this level, this promises to be an interesting set of matches!
