The Junior Boys took over the Boys’ Division Senior School Great Hall for their annual Spring Concert at the end of term. Parents and relatives were in for a treat, as the boys had prepared a varied programme of musical entertainment.
The Strings Group kicked off the evening with two upbeat tunes: ‘Sing It, Swing It’ and ‘Rock About/Rooster Rag’. This definitely set a fine mood for the Concert! The Lower School Choir was next, singing ‘From a Railway Carriage’, ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Every Inch of our Planet is Home’. After this, the Guitar Ensemble took centre stage with two pieces: ‘The Whitecroft Road Shuffle’ and ‘CTP Calypso’. The Upper School Choir’s voices then filled the Hall, singing ‘Adiemus’, ‘Salley Gardens’ and ‘Amadeus’ Go Cart’.
They were followed by Music Festival winner Patrick Bentley, performing ‘Prelude’ as a fitting reward for his efforts in the competition. The Wind Band played ‘Accidental Blues’ and ‘Blowing a Warm Breeze’ – a great tune for springtime! The Recorder Group rounded off the instrumental performances with ‘Carnival’ and ‘Juliet’.
Finally, the massed voices of the whole Boys’ Junior School serenaded the audience with a fantastic Beatles Medley! This compilation of hits went down really well with the audience and the boys clearly enjoyed performing such iconic songs.
At the end of the concert, there was a collection for Toilet Twinning: raising funds for founder charities Cord and Tearfund, to enable people living in poor communities to have clean water, a decent toilet, and to learn about hygiene.
