Over 100 primary school children from Bolton and Greater Manchester enjoyed Sales Sharks' Tag Rugby Festival, held at Bolton School. Referees and assistance on the day was given by Bolton Rugby Union Club. The event was the finale of several weeks of tag rugby coaching in 17 primary schools from across the borough.
The Year 5 and Year 6 boys and girls had a wonderful afternoon and the tournament was hotly contested. It was seven-a-side rugby with every team member in each ten player squad getting a game; each game was 7 minutes long. The overall winners were St James CE Primary School Daisy Hill, who overcame Bolton School in a tight final by 4 tries to 3.
Bolton Rugby Development Officer Steph Veal said: "It's been a great tournament with lots of good rugby in spite of the poor weather. We have unearthed some excellent talent and demonstrated to young people what an enjoyable sport rugby is."
Coaching tips and prizes were handed out on the day by Sale Sharks players Will Cliff and Fijian international Wame Lewaravu.
The Sharks are due to play a ground breaking Aviva Premiership match against London Irish at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday 16th April.
