U11s are AJIS Football Cup Winners
Wednesday, 21 March 2012
Bolton School Junior Boys enjoyed a resounding 7-0 win over Arnold School in this year's final of the U11s' AJIS Football Cup. Played on neutral territory at Stockport Grammar School, the Bolton boys found themselves 2-0 up at half-time. Arnold had made a dramatic come back in their semi-final against Birkenhead so the game was by no means over. However, the Bolton boys kept up their intensity and went on to record a comfortable 7-0 win. Only a string of excellent saves from Arnold's goalkeeper kept the score down to seven. Coach Mr Mike Duxbury said: "It was a great evening, the game was played in the right spirit and there was a great atmosphere created by parents from both schools. The boys were excellent ambassadors for the school both on and off the pitch."
Bolton School overcame King's Macclesfield in the semi-final, having, at one point, been 3-1 down, they came back to secure a 6-3 victory. The AJIS cup involved 34 teams from across the North-West, from as far as Rishworth in the East, Birkenhead in the West, Fleetwood in the North and Newcastle-under-Lyme in the South.
The Junior Boys last won the trophy in 2002 and lost out to Merchant Taylor's from Liverpool in the final two years ago.
