Bolton School Junior Girls

Mathematics is a life skill and as such we want the girls to enjoy the subject and to show curiosity in it. We develop fluency skills as well as their reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Whole class and group teaching are central to every lesson and the children’s learning is supported by practical resources. They are then encouraged to use pictorial representations until they are confident to apply their Mathematics skills in a more abstract way.

Within the Mathematics lessons, emphasis is placed on discussion: oracy skills are taught explicitly so that the girls are better able to communicate their ideas in Maths. Working in small groups to solve multistep mathematical problems also improves their team working skills.

I find mathematics challenging in a fun way.  It really makes you think.
