Bolton School Junior Girls

The Curriculum

Our pupils enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum, with specialist subject teaching in music, PE and languages. Our teaching methods draw on the best of both traditional and more modern approaches. We encourage creativity, independent thinking, questioning and problem solving to enrich learning and extend it beyond the basic requirements of the National Curriculum.

Oracy skills are incredibly important, and permeate every part of school life. To be able to express yourself articulately and with confidence is of great benefit, as is the ability to listen carefully to others and show empathy. Discussion, debate and sharing of ideas help to develop our understanding of the work around us, and collaborating with others in every part of the curriculum is the focal point of our teaching and learning. Our Learning Challenge Curriculum groups several subjects together, all linked to a particular topic or theme, and with a strong sense of enquiry at its heart.

Continuous assessment combined with end of year tests are used to monitor and measure the progress of each pupil and to provide additional support where necessary. In the final year, we prepare all our girls for the Senior School Entrance Examination.
