Bronwen Wins National Number Heroes Competition
Friday, 08 July 2022
Bronwen Soper, a Year 4 pupil at Hesketh House, the Junior Girls’ School at Bolton School, has won a national School Number Heroes competition.
National Numeracy invited children from across the country to take part in their Number Heroes Competition for National Numeracy Day, with six prize bundles worth at least £1,000 each. Contestants were asked to create a picture showing how they will use numbers in their lives when they grow up. The specification said: ‘Maybe they would love to become a vet, teacher, engineer or footballer? Or dream of spending their days dancing, baking or saving the planet?’ The children were then asked to produce a drawing showing themselves doing their dream job or hobby and to tell how it uses numbers.
The winners were chosen by National Numeracy celebrity Ambassador Bobby Seagull, a Maths teacher and TV personality who recently appeared on E4’s The Real Dirty Dancing and Channel 4’s The Answer Trap.
Bronwen won a £50 voucher for herself and a certificate as well as a Number Heroes pack worth over £1,000 for her school, containing games, books and resources!
A National Numeracy spokesperson said: ‘Congratulations Bronwen – we all really loved the drawing of your archaeologist dream! It was so creative, and we could see how much effort you put into your entry.’
The prize packs were provided by National Numeracy and National Numeracy Day Founding Supporter KPMG and Numberblocks, Numbots, Times Tables Rock Stars and White Rose Maths.
