The Junior Girls’ annual Charity Afternoon has raised an impressive £682.94. All of the charities were chosen by the Year 6 pupils, who also arranged and ran the stalls for the rest of the School to enjoy.
One of the groups served delicious ‘Miss Whippy’ ice creams in several flavours and with toppings from the kitchen, while another had arranged ice lollies. Also on offer were a variety of non-alcoholic cocktails and fruity slushies, and there were also lots of stalls offering all kinds of sweets. Girls could also decorate their own biscuits or cakes with several different icings and various toppings at two of the stalls.
There were lots of activities too, including creating a personalised wooden plaque using colourful craft materials. Girls could have their hair styled to perfection at the ‘Hairtique’ stall, or have their make-up done and nails painted. With ‘hand in the box’ games, brilliant raffles to take part in, ’Guess the Name of the Teddy’ and ‘Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar’ competitions, and much more, there was a party atmosphere in the Hall for the whole afternoon.
Some of the Year 6 girls even braved unseasonably chilly weather to be splashed or doused with buckets of water, all to aid their chosen charity!
The Charity Afternoon is always one of the highlights in the Junior Girls’ School calendar, and this year was no exception. The Year 6 girls’ hard work raised an incredible amount for their chosen charities: the Blue Cross, Bolton Hospice, Bolton Lads and Girls’ Club, the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research, the Horse And Pony Protection Association (HAPPA), Macmillan Cancer Support, the MS Society, the NSPCC, the RSPCA, St Anne’s Hospice, Unicef and WaterAid.
