Coco Performs in Octagon’s Jane Eyre
Friday, 19 January 2018
Year 6 pupil Coco Jones has been cast in the Octagon’s production of Jane Eyre. Tonight is her opening night in front of an audience, and she is really looking forward to it.
Coco plays the role of Adèle Varens, the French girl who is Mr Rochester’s ward. She has previously appeared in The Herbal Bed at The Lowry Theatre and George’s Marvellous Medicine at Manchester Opera House. However, the part in Jane Eyre is the largest role she has landed so far, requiring lots of time on stage in the background in addition to her lines, and several quick-changes of costume.
Coco said: “I had quite a few lines to learn. Rehearsals started on the 2nd of December, and it’s the first time I’ve been in rehearsals from the start, including dress rehearsals and tech rehearsals. Before I’d only done quick run-throughs with the cast.”
She added that the cast have become “one big theatre family” and on nights when she wasn’t at rehearsals she wished she was there!
Coco is in good company in the production, as the actress playing Jane Eyre is Jessica Baglow, who also attended the Junior Girls’ School.
The Octagon’s production of Jane Eyre, which was adapted from Charlotte Brontë’s novel by Lorna French, is on at the Octagon Theatre until 10 February.
