Girl Power for Sharon in England Chess Squad

Wednesday, 01 May 2013

Bolton School Junior Girls’ Year 6 pupil, Sharon Daniel, has been selected for the England U11 Chess team and is the only girl in the squad!

Sharon, who has been in the England Girls’ Team for three years, was selected for the mixed team following her performance at the England U11 Trial at Liverpool College. The other 18 members of the squad are all boys.

Amazingly, Sharon has only been playing for three years and is the strongest player in the Junior Girls’ School Team, which she captains, and in the Manchester Chess Team that she plays for. So far, she has amassed a total of 26 trophies and 17 medals, including the recent U11 Grand Prix which makes her the 2013 U11 English Youth Chess Champion, the UK Chess Challenge Mega Final in the U9 and U10 age groups and she has won the AJIS Chess Tournament for the last two years.
