Girls Recreate Rainforest

Tuesday, 01 March 2011

Year 3 classrooms at Hesketh House were transformed into the Amazon Rainforest as girls used leaves and cuddly animals to recreate the layers of the tropical forest.

This was part of a talk on Brazil and the Amazon, aimed at helping the girls to understand the environment and the creatures and plants that live there. The girls learned about the country of Brazil and about the products we get from the Amazon including hardwoods such as Mahogany, Teak and Ebony, coffee beans and Brazil nuts. They learned how chocolate is made from the cocoa beans found there, and how rubber is made from the trees.

The girls then learned about the different layers of the rainforest and the kinds of wildlife they may find in each one and had fun recreating this with the props and making their own rainforest sounds.
