Hedgehog Rescue at Hesketh House
Tuesday, 24 September 2019
When an injured hedgehog limped on to the netball courts during a Year 5 PE lesson, pupils had the unexpected opportunity to learn more about these animals and their care. The girls named the visitor ‘Horatio’ and donated their maths book box for him to stay in for the time being.
Mrs Sweeney, a Junior Girls’ School parent who assists with hedgehog rescue, was happy to come into school to collect the hedgehog. She also gave an impromptu lesson about how he will be nursed back to heath, what food he will eat and how he will be treated. Pupils also discovered that Horatio may need to stay at the sanctuary this winter if he is not fit enough for hibernation.
