How the Junior Girls Brought Christmas
Thursday, 17 December 2020
The Junior Girls’ festive show this year brought audiences a filmed performance of ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’. Working with the restrictions of staying Covid-secure, the girls headed across to the Girls’ Division Theatre to sing and narrate their parts while staying within separate year group bubbles. The whole thing was recorded and all the segments knitted together to create a fabulous festive spectacle featuring the whole of the school.
The introduction made it clear that the Junior Girls wouldn’t let anything stand in the way of their Christmas: ‘Welcome to our Christmas show. Here’s a tale from long ago about the Grinch, the sad old beast, who wants to steal our Christmas feast. But will we let him steal our show? The answer is a definite no!’
They certainly followed through on that promise.
Year 6 pupils told the story of ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ by reciting the Dr Seuss poem. This was interspersed with songs performed by all the year groups: ‘You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch’, ‘Welcome Christmas’, ‘Trim Up The Tree’, ‘Where Are You Christmas?’, ‘Perfect Christmas Night’ and a ‘Whoville Medley’ that combined several of these to create a finale.
The two Year 3 classes danced to ‘Trim Up The Tree’ while decorating their own Christmas tree with baubles and tinsel on stage.
Girls also thoroughly enjoyed singing ‘Joy To The World’ in Spanish and English, with the recordings put together so that the whole school could dance on screen together at the end of their performance.
The filmed Christmas show ended with the following message: ‘Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas from everyone at Hesketh House.’
The Junior Girls enjoyed watching and singing along with their Christmas show on the penultimate day of term, and parents were sent a link to view the whole thing in the end of term newsletter.
