Pantomime Drama for Year 6
Friday, 12 December 2014
The Year 6 girls were invited to a Drama Morning in the Girls’ Division Senior School. Working with Miss Smith, one of the Girls’ Division English teachers, they had the opportunity to participate in a number of workshops on the theme of pantomimes.
After spending some time in workshops about the various elements in pantomime theatre, the girls were divided into groups to rehearse their own mini-pantomimes: Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Aladdin and Little Red Riding Hood – or ‘Little Red’ as it became known! The girls put their own twist on the scripts and stories that they told and worked hard to perfect every element before putting on a show in front of their classmates in the Girls’ Division Theatre!
When each performance drew to a close, the audience and Mrs Smith commented on what they had particularly enjoyed or what the group had done well, helping to reinforce the girls’ learning on the subject.
One of the girls said, “We talked about the importance of facial expressions, hand gestures and discussed how pantomimes are often based on fairy tales. We performed our pantomimes in front of the other groups with props and different costumes. It was a very enjoyable experience!”
