Poetic Presents on National Poetry Day
Thursday, 06 October 2016
This year, on National Poetry Day, Book Club members took the words of renowned poet Michael Rosen to heart: “Poetry is the sound of words in your ears, it’s the look of poets in motion and that can be you. Make your poems sing, whisper, shout and float. Let the words make the rhythm and give the viewers a buzz to see you …”
The girls not only provided a stimulating assembly on the theme, they also hand packed and delivered envelopes containing two little gifts to every pupil at the Junior Girls’ School.
Each envelope contained a poem and some writing paper. The message inside: become a Performance Poet, share a poem with a friend or, better still, compose your very own poem and recite it!
The girls were delighted with their presents and spent their lunchtime reciting poetry to one another and creating their own lines inspired by what they had read.
