Traditional Victorian Christmas for Year 6
Monday, 16 December 2013
Hesketh House turned back the clock for pupils in Year 6 this week. The girls were transported to the main hall - and back in time - to bake traditional Victorian mince pies!
The girls were given chef’s hats and a lesson in hygiene before being tasked with baking their own festive treats to take home and enjoy.
Over the course of the lesson, they also learned the history of the mince pie, including its very different origins. To assist with this, the catering staff followed Mrs Beeton’s 1861 recipe and whipped up a ground beef mince pie for the class to try. This wasn’t quite the sweet treat they are accustomed to, but it was a great chance for the girls to taste a bit of history.
