The Junior Girls and their families have been busy doing some Christmas shopping for underprivileged children around the world. This year, the School has collected almost 130 gifts to be delivered by Operation Christmas Child!
Operation Christmas Child is a branch of the international relief organisation Samaritan’s Purse. Since 1990, it has been sending gift-filled shoeboxes wrapped and packed by children and adults in the UK to children who might otherwise not receive anything on Christmas Day. The shoeboxes are given as unconditional gifts on the basis of need alone.
The girls brought almost 130 shoeboxes into school, each one beautifully wrapped and filled with thoughtful gifts for another child who may otherwise not get anything this Christmas. The generosity of the girls and their families was left on display on the stage as the as the shoeboxes were collected in, creating a huge wall of brightly-coloured gifts which are sure to make the festive season special for many girls and boys around the world.
Headmistress Mrs Ruth Brierley was delighted with the amount of donations: “Seeing the wall of brightly wrapped shoeboxes on our stage, knowing the surprise and pleasure they will bring a boy or girl this Christmas, was a true moment on which to reflect.”
