Something readers should know: Strange but true - as a child aged I had a picture of Shakespeare on my bedroom wall whereas most of my friends had pictures of the Beatles or their favourite pop group!
What or who encouraged you to choose teaching as a career? My inspiration to teach came from my English and Latin teachers at Grammar School. Both were passionate about their subjects and passed on to me a love of language and the power of words.
What has been your most satisfying moment in the classroom? The entire year that I taught a Reception class in 1990/91. I learned so much from the children I encountered. Witnessing them acquiring reading and writing skills based on my teaching was truly a magical experience and one that I shall treasure all my life.
What are you looking forward to this year? Helping to develop Bolton School’s already thriving Primary Liaison Programme, through participation in a Shakespearian Drama workshop for Year 5 pupils.
What do you enjoy about teaching? Having the privilege of positively influencing children’s thinking. Working with young people is the key to feeling alive and vibrant – it is such a rewarding profession. We learn by teaching!
