Primary School Pupils from across the region came together at Bolton School on 16th June for the Girls in Construction Challenge Day, an engaging STEM event designed to introduce girls aged 7–11 to the exciting world of construction, engineering and design.
Organised by Design and Build UK, founded by parent and The Apprentice runner-up Michaela Wain, the event welcomed teams of pupils from participating schools for a series of practical team challenges that tested their creativity and problem-solving skills.
Throughout the day, teams rotated around eight stations that held challenging activities such as bridge building, construction site planning and designing imaginative playgrounds. Working together on each task, the girls demonstrated impressive innovation and resilience.
The event provided pupils with an opportunity to learn more about the construction industry in an exciting and accessible way, whilst meeting professionals with years of experience within the sector.
Following a day of challenges, participants gathered for an awards ceremony celebrating achievements across a range of categories, including Best Engineers, Best Teamwork and Most Creative Design. Every pupil received a Girls in Construction certificate in recognition of their participation.
The day formed part of a wider effort to encourage more girls to consider future pathways in STEM-related fields and highlighted the importance of providing young people with opportunities to engage with real-world engineering and construction challenges from an early age.
The event was a memorable experience for all involved, inspiring pupils to think differently about the possibilities of future careers in these fields.
