Year 12 students at Bolton School have been making a difference to younger pupils this year, giving their time to support students in Years 7 and 8 through the School’s mentoring scheme.
The mentors have provided a friendly and familiar face for younger pupils, helping them settle into school life and giving them someone to talk to when they need advice or reassurance. Conversations have covered everything from friendships and schoolwork to organisation and worries about school.
The Year 12 students have approached the role with real maturity and kindness, taking the time to listen and offer encouragement. Their support has clearly meant a great deal to the younger pupils, with one describing their mentor as “the light in the dark”.
Mentoring has also given the Year 12 students the chance to develop their own skills and confidence. Through working with younger pupils, they have gained experience in listening, communicating with others and taking responsibility, while several have expressed an interest in continuing their involvement with the scheme next year.
A huge thank you goes to Aanya Agrawal, Aizay Alam, Amarah Badat, Hanisa Becic, Umaynah Bhaloda, Zaynab Bhatia, Syeda Bokhari, Neva Brayshaw, Disha Sri Challa, Anashe Chuma, Nikita Dontula, Christine Ekweogu, Inaaya Hashmi, Cindy He, Anushka Kishore, Imogen Linas, Sara Mahomed, Ameena Patel, Emily Sorrigan and Rebecca Zavaglia for the time they have given to supporting younger members of the School community.
The mentoring scheme has shown what can be achieved when pupils support one another across year groups, and we look forward to seeing it continue to grow.
