Bolton School Senior Boys

New Film Explores How Boat Was Built

A new film documentary, produced by Mr Duncan Kyle, charts how the 60 foot sailing boat, named Tenacity of Bolton, was built by pupils, staff, parents, helpers and local businesses over a nine year period (1998-2007).

The film includes extensive interviews with Mr Michael Whitmarsh, Director of the Millennium Ketch Project and former Head of Technology at Bolton School, and with Mr Alan Wright, former Headmaster of Bolton School Boys' Division.

The film records the great efforts of all those involved in the project, not least of which were the 1,000 boys for whom it formed an integral part of the curriculum and a popular lunch-time extra-curricular activity. The boat is now managed by the Tall Ships Youth Trust but is still used by boys and girls in Senior School for sailing lessons in the Irish Sea.
