Bolton School Senior Boys
This section contains information on some of the facilities in the Boys' Division.
The school, with its magnificent buildings of pink sandstone with oak interiors, offers a fitting setting for academic study. The school's libraries offer pupils excellent facilities for reading and research; they are very well stocked and we welcome students' own recommendations. Computers with internet access to online resources are provided in the library, and are supplemented by iPads.
Separate sciences are taught in fifteen dedicated laboratories. The Technology Wing consists of seven workshops, well-equipped for computer-aided design and the latest techniques for manufacture. There are five different computer suites in addition to PCs in classrooms. The Modern Languages department uses a purpose-built language laboratory in their teaching.
The Great Hall is an impressive venue for large-scale public events as well as regular assemblies for the whole school. The Arts Centre and the McKellen Studio Theatre provide a more intimate setting for plays, musicals and talks.
Our Sports Complex is at the heart of the school and consists of a 25m swimming pool, full size sports hall, well-equipped weights room, comprehensive gymnasium with a climbing wall, and thirty-two acres of sports fields on the 'Levels'. Cricket is well served by practice nets, bowling machine and the attention of permanent ground staff to maintain the wickets. The on-site Tillotson Pavilion contains a multi-gym and fitness centre, while the Leverhulme Pavilion, 0.5 miles from the main school, provides tennis courts and further sports facilities.
At Bolton School we believe in developing the whole person and boys will undertake numerous school trips, visits and tours. Each year, every pupil visits Patterdale Hall, our outdoor pursuits centre in the Lake District. It has an idyllic setting on the southern shores of Lake Ullswater. Superbly equipped, Patterdale is licensed for commercial use and has a national reputation. The 'Patterdale Experience' builds character and provides pupils with lifelong memories. Patterdale also hosts Business Enterprise Awareness Training (BEAT) to Sixth Form pupils.
Through Kidzone, the school is able to provide a range of wraparound childcare services for children from 4 to 13 years throughout the year. We aim to offer a welcome to each individual child and their family and to provide a happy, relaxed, fun-filled environment which is safe and secure, enabling children to learn and develop as they play.
