Former pupil Sir Ian McKellen, along with many famous creative practitioners including illustrator Chris Aaran, has submitted original artwork for Bolton School Boys’ Division’s “Pop Up” Creative Arts Exhibition taking place on Saturday 27 June from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm in Bolton Market Place Shopping Centre.
The Exhibition will celebrate the work of students from the Departments of Art, Music, Drama and English, drawing interdisciplinary work together through the theme of ‘Conflict’. The show takes place on Armed Forces Day and is part of the School’s programme of events commemorating the Great War.
The interactive exhibition will present a range of disciplines including screen printing, animation, performance, photography and collaborative drawing. Further details can be found at: http://jm681.wix.com/popup15. In addition to student work, there will be a number of artworks made specifically for the exhibition by famous designers, which will be available for purchase in a Secret Postcard Sale.
Delighted at securing so much original artwork for the postcard sale, Miss Jennie McCann, said: "I can’t believe how supportive everyone has been. We have artists, designers, and illustrators from all over the world: France, Israel, Canada, and New York! And it all started with Twitter! I used social media sites to contact them, and asked if they would like to be involved. Unbelievably, most of them said yes! I couldn’t believe how supportive the professional artists have been, and obviously it’s great to have our very own creative Sir Ian on board! Let’s hope he comes to the show!!! Our Art students actually study the work of some of these artists in their lessons, the boys love a particular graffiti artist called 45rpm, so it’s great for them to know how approachable these artists can be.”
