Biathlon Gold for Andrew
Monday, 28 March 2011
Year 10 pupil Andrew Keat is the English Schools' Biathlon Champion in his age group after an outstanding performance at the final of the competition.
Andrew came first in the 1000m run and eleventh in the 100m swim to secure first place, while Year 11 pupil Oliver Walker also gave an impressive performance, finishing fourth in the run and fifth in the swim to give him an overall position of third in his age group. Thanks to their successes at the competition, Andrew and Oliver have qualified automatically for the British Biathlon Championships to be held in Birmingham on 8 May.
It seems that talent runs in the family as Oliver's sister Lydia in Year 10 of the Girls' Division came 7th in her age group, placing 14th in the run and 13th in the swim. Also in the Girls' Division, Aimee Smith finished 9th in the Year 9 age group taking 18th in the run and 11th in the swim. Back in the Boys' Division, Year 8 pupil Matthew Martin finished 16th in his age group and the Year 7 team gained 5th position in theirs. The Junior Boys' team also did well in the competition to take second overall in their age group.
