Girls and boys from both the junior and senior schools of Bolton School met with success at the weekend at the English Schools' Biathlon event held at Wavertree Sports Park in Liverpool. The competition sees Years 5, 6 and 7 biathletes run 500m and swim 50m and the older girls and boys run 1000m and swim 100m.
In the Year 6 girls' race Louisa Brophy finished 13th overall, Grace Haskins came in 16th and Hannah Stephenson 17th. This meant that their team was placed first overall in the Year 6 Team competition and that they will proceed to the Regional semi-final in Macclesfield in January.
In Year 9 of the girls' competition, Aimee Smith finished 5th, Katie Devine 12th and Isobel Faulkner 15th. This was enough to secure first place for the girls in the Year 9 Team competition and to also allow them entry to the semi-finals in the new year.
Year 10 pupil, Lydia Walker, finished in an impressive 3rd position overall in her age group and she too will progress to the semis.
The junior and senior boys' schools met with similar success, which will see them compete in the Macclesfield semi-finals.
In the Year 6 boys' competition, Harvey Haworth had the best run and finished 1st overall, Harrison Barker-Smith came in 4th position and Guy Haworth 6th. Andrew Mattison finished in a very credible 14th position. An outstanding team effort which meant the boys finished first overall!
The boys' Year 5 team also enjoyed a successful weekend finishing in 2nd place overall in their age group. Robert Aldred achieved an overall placing of 7th, Jamie Price gained 11th position and George Speak took 13th spot.
Senior School boys also excelled. The Year 7 boys recorded a 2nd place team finish. Individually, Ben Riding had placed 4th, Andrew Lee 5th and David Price 11th.
There were also some outstanding individual performances in other year groups which saw Bolton School claim 1st position in the Year 8 (Matthew Martin), Year 10 (Andrew Keat) and Year 11 (Oliver Walker) competitions.
We wish all our biathletes the best of luck in the Semi-Finals in the new year.
