Bolton School Helps Out Sale Sharks
Friday, 20 August 2010
Former Bolton School Head Boy and 1st XV rugby captain Jack Forster, made a quick phone call to his former rugby coaches at the school when his current team the Sale Sharks became stuck in heavy congestion on the M6 on Thursday afternoon. Sale's first team squad was travelling to Glasgow for the Friday night friendly match via a training session at Carlisle RUFC. Due to a serious incident on the motorway it became evident they would not make their destination.
Messers Joseph and Fernside returned to school and arranged for the squad to train on the first XV pitch, rather than be sat on the motorway for an unknown amount of time. Balls were hastily blown up and the school maintenance team ensured there was hot water back on at the showers.
The players, which included world cup winner Ben Cohen, were put through their paces by Sharks Head Coach Mike Brewer. Brewer, a former All Black, was full of praise for the standard of the school pitches and the cooperation of the many departments at Bolton School who rallied round to put on the event despite all the summer work going on at school.
To show their gratitude, Brewer also said he would bring the full squad back in the near future to train in front of the school rugby players. With the motorway clearing, the squad eventually left to make their way to Glasgow.
