Bolton School Scout Group Host St George’s Day Service

Sunday, 26 April 2015

The 19th Bolton (Bolton School) Scout Group played host to this year’s local St George’s Day Service, which was held in the Great Hall of the Boys’ Division.

A parade of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts processed along Chorley New Road and into School through the Riley Quadrangle and the new Sixth Form Centre before the service began at 2.00pm.

Paul Greenhalgh, a young leader with scouts, introduced the service and local Vicar, Mark Cowling, gave a message about the excitement and challenge of following Jesus, which used visual aids including a toy dragon, rope  and bike helmet.

The gathering joined in a number of songs including Jesus’ Love is Very Wonderful which was accompanied by actions.

The reaffirmation of promises and Scout Prayers were led by members of each section. Some of the cubs, as part of their weekly meetings, had been learning sign language and signed the scout promise as it was read.
