The six finalists in the Boys’ Division Year 7 Gymnastics Competition joined the rest of their year group in the gym to demonstrate their abilities in front of an audience. With so many boys watching them perform their routines, the pressure was on to provide a great routine.
All of the boys in Year 7 were initially entered into the competition through their gymnastics assessments last term, with the six best performers invited to take part in the final. Zain Ahmed, Jake Baker, Lawson Bates, Charlie Griffiths, Umar Shaikh and Luca Williams-Denton each took centre stage to compete for the Challenge Cup for Gymnastics, which was first presented in 1914.
Each boy had prepared a sequence of balances and travelling movements which best displayed their gymnastic abilities. All of the boys did an excellent job with their routines, and the individual performances were judged by P.E. staff.
Luca Williams-Denton won the gold medal and the Challenge Cup, while Umar Shaikh took the silver and Lawson Bates the bronze. The other boys were awarded certificates for achieving a place in the final. These were presented at the end of the competition by the Headmaster, Mr Philip Britton.
The Year 8 Vaulting Competition also took place this week.
