Pupils from all year groups from Y7 to the Sixth Form of Bolton School Boys’ Division are preparing to spring a ‘Takeover Day’ at a variety of sites throughout the village of Port Sunlight on the Wirral. The model village was built by the Lever Brothers to accommodate workers from their nearby soap factory. William Hesketh Lever, later to become Lord Leverhulme, made his fortune from the soap business and in 1915 he brought together Bolton Grammar School for Boys and the Bolton High School for Girls to form Bolton School (Boys’ Division and Girls’ Division). The takeover event will be badged as a ‘Leverhulme Festival’ and will take place on Sunday 1 July from 12.00 noon to 3.00pm; it promises to be a wonderful family event, involving students from a variety of disciplines.

The day will not only feature musical ensembles, but, Drama performances, historical tours of The Village, Art exhibitions, a geocache treasure trail and creative family workshops, all hosted by Bolton School students. The itinerary will offer different events throughout the day and people can drop in and out of as they wish, in venues such as Lady Lever Art Gallery and Bridge Cottage, the family home of Lord Leverhulme. The festival aims to celebrate the life and legacy of Leverhulme, through Unity, Community, Heritage and Innovation.

Takeover Day is a national initiative coordinated by Kids In Museums to give young people meaningful roles in the heritage sector. Details of the event are also posted on the National Museums Liverpool website.
