"Pupils are encouraged to volunteer, to lead, to perform, to try new things, to move outside their comfort zone and they emerge as fine, rounded, honourable young adults equipped to thrive and succeed wherever life takes them."

Boys Take Second Place at Greater Manchester Chemquiz

Monday, 29 June 2015

Four Boys’ Division pupils recently took part in this year’s Chemquiz: an annual competition for local schools which tests chemical and scientific knowledge through an enjoyable day of activities. This year, the event was hosted by The Manchester Metropolitan University in their newly refurbished, state of the art laboratories, and BASF were the sponsors once again.

Teammates Ross Pursey from Year 10, Matthew Schaffel from Year 9, and Year 8 pupils Ruairi McCabe and James Leese-Weller took part in the competition on behalf of the Boys’ Division. They participated in three rounds of activities: a multimedia section, a practical laboratory exercise, and a quiz.

The boys acquitted themselves extremely well throughout the day, and were finally awarded second place overall for their efforts after being beaten by just 0.07%. The boys also won first place in the multimedia section of the competition.
