Charity Run Raises Thousands

Tuesday, 29 June 2010

Bolton School Boys' Division Head of PE, Matt Johnson, took part in The Great Manchester Run for the third year running, to raise money for ASBAH (Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus).

Matt has hydrocephalus, commonly known as 'water on the brain', and although currently there is no cure for the condition, with treatment he is able to live a fit and healthy life.

Matt and six of his friends have raised a total of £1648.00 through the run over the last three years, contributing to the total of around £10, 000 that Matt has raised for the charity since being diagnosed with the condition three years ago.

Matt said: "I want to raise as much money as possible to fund research into the condition, which mainly affects babies at birth. Funding is desperately needed to help develop a cure, and I want to thank everyone who has supported me and given sponsorship money."
