Year 9 cricketer Chris Brownlow has been named as Young Player of the Year by The Cricketer magazine!
Chris impressed the magazine with the breadth of cricket he has played across so many age groups, including senior cricket, for school, club, district and county and that he has been able to perform well at all levels. The magazine described Chris as the junior whose all round performances for school, club and county have been most impressive and appearances on the under 16 honours board unstoppable.
Chris's remarkable season began in April when he captained the Bolton School team to victory in the Lancashire Schools' Indoor Cricket Tournament at Old Trafford. In the same month Chris skippered the Lancashire Under 13s on a tour to Barbados where his side won five of six games. He made his maiden century, scoring 106 for Bolton District under 13s in a match during which he also took 4 for 23 including a hat trick. He scored 130 in a match for his school side and took 5 for 13 in an Under 13s National Knockout game for Horwich RMICC. In August Bolton District Under 13s won the Lancashire Knockout Final mainly due to Chris's 101 followed by his 5 for 7. In total Chris has represented some ten teams over the summer, captaining three of them while scoring more than 1600 runs and taking almost 70 wickets. As one of the North-West's most exciting young cricketers he is one of a group of under 13s whose progress is being monitored by the ECB.
