The Joint Junior Concert Band directed by Mr. Dawkins, gave two
excellent concerts to the pupils at Gilnow Primary School and St
Paul's CE Primary School.
The band, which is made up of pupils from both divisions ranging
from year 5 to year 9, was complimented on excellent behaviour and
was indeed a credit to the school.
The programme included Supercalifragilistic, You Raise me up,
YMCA and music from The Simpsons and Mission Impossible. In between
band items, the audience were treated to some solos so that the
primary school children could hear what each of the instruments in
the band sounded like. Soloists included Sally Cowling (oboe),
Seren Davies (alto saxophone), Charlotte Johnson (flute), James
Stevens (trumpet), George Blackwell (tenor horn), Max Hartle
(clarinet), Thomas Underwood (trombone) and Ben Lawton
(trumpet).
The climax of both concerts was the performance of 'YMCA' where
all the primary school children and staff rose to their feet so
that they could do the actions led by Mr Dawkins and Mrs
Drinkwater. At the end of the concert the band was thanked for
their inspiring performance and asked to return as soon as
possible.
