"When I return to Bolton School to talk to pupils about entrepreneurship, my message is to 'go for it'. This is an attitude that I had instilled in me during my time at the school where my curiosity was fuelled and I became interested in ideas."

England U16 Basketball Call-up for Patrick

Friday, 14 October 2011

Patrick Whelan a pupil at Bolton School Boys' Division has been selected in the 2012 U16 men's England Squad for the European Championships.

Patrick's recent performance at the Regional Development Tournament, where he was a starting five player for the North-West of England and where he received a silver medal as a runner-up, was the catalyst for his England call-up.

The initial squad of 30 players will be reduced to a final group of 12 and a maximum of three reserves, which will be named in April next year.  The national squad's focus is to develop a team to play well at the Euro Championships in July and August of next year.

Head of Performance at England Basketball, Warwick Cann, told the squad: "The team is dependent on your continued development in skill and physical conditioning.  Your performance will be carefully reviewed and is dependent not just on your perceived talent, but on skill level and physical conditioning as well as your attitude and commitment."

There will be camps for the squad in October and December with international games in December with further camps and competition at Easter before the final group prepares with a summer block of games and camps.
