"When I return to Bolton School to talk to pupils about entrepreneurship, my message is to 'go for it'. This is an attitude that I had instilled in me during my time at the school where my curiosity was fuelled and I became interested in ideas."

Gold Award for Jazz Band at National Final

Saturday, 09 April 2016

Having been awarded a Gold Award in the regional heats of the National Concert Band Festival in November, the Bolton School Jazz Band was invited to perform in the National Finals, held at the Royal Northern College of Music.

The group, directed by Mr Alec Wares, performed first in their section and set a very high standard for the day. Their performance opened with Gordon Goodwin’s ‘Hit the Bricks’, then moved into Van Morrison’s ‘Moondance’, Sergio Mendes’ ‘Mas Que Nada’ and finished with ‘Norwegian Wood’ by The Beatles.

The two adjudicators praised the group for the balanced sound they produced and their tight and accurate renditions of their chosen programme. There was also advice offered on how the group could further refine and develop their performance. At the conclusion of the section, the adjudicators praised the high standard of playing across the morning and awarded the Bolton School Jazz Band a Gold Award.

Congratulations to all members of the Jazz Band and Mr Wares.
